Charles A. "Cubby" Stein, 83, of Orwigsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Genesis HealthCare-Orwigsburg Center.

Born in Reading, March 19, 1931, he was a son of the late Norman L. and Kathryn S. Fister Stein.

He was the widower of Darlene E. Henninger Stein.

He was a member of Congregational Free Church of Christ, Orwigsburg. Charles was instrumental in the construction and transportation of the church from Fort Indiantown Gap.

Charles was also a member of Masonic Lodge 138, Orwigsburg Gun Club and the Rajah Shrine.

He enjoyed hunting, camping and racing. He raced in is younger years and was part owner of a stock car. He also enjoyed trap shooting and traveled to compete.

He was employed as a truck driver and had owned his own truck in the past.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel R. Stein; infant twin brothers and infant sister.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Diane M., wife of Eric Mengel; granddaughter, Jennifer K., wife of Brandon Steely; grandson, Jonathon C. Mengel and his fiancee, Tara Woll; great-grandchildren, Chase A. and Preston J. Sincavage and Reese A. Steely; a sister, Lorene A., widow of Robert Hope; a brother, Norman L. Stein, husband of Deloris; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Charles and his wife, Darlene E. Henninger Stein, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Congregational Free Church of Christ, Orwigsburg, with the Rev. Jeffrey C. Stonesifer officiating. Family and friends may gather from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. There will be a Masonic service at 10:45 a.m. Private interment will be held at a later date in Steigerwalt's Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregational Free Church of Christ, 81 McKeans Ridge Road, Orwigsburg, PA 17961.Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., Orwigsburg is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
