David L. "Jap" Schoener, 70, of Orwigsburg, died peacefully Sunday while in the company of family members at his residence.

Born in Orwigsburg, Jan. 17, 1945, he was a son of the late J. Edward and Dorothy Leona Kocher Schoener.

He was the husband of Sandra L. Davies Schoener. They married on Feb. 7, 1970.

He was raised in the Protestant faith. He served in the Army as a sergeant in the Vietnam War.

Was very active in the Friendship Hose Company No. 1, Station 56 Orwigsburg and worked as a roofer.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa "Teri" Schoener, in 2011; and his sister, Rita Schoener.

David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra L. Davies Schoener; his brother, Kenneth Edward Schoener, Mifflin; grandchildren Ashley, Joseph, Lindsay, Chelsey, Eric and Kayla; and great-grandchildren, Haley, Rylee, Connor, Wyatt and Chloe.

Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
