Josephine Nelson (Elliott) Rohrer

Josephine Nelson Rohrer, Orwigsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday at Seton Manor with her family by her side.Josephine was born in Seaford, Del., to the late Dallas Marvel Elliott and Mary Caroline Warrington Elliott and lived most of her childhood in Cambridge, Md.She was a graduate of Cambridge High School and Salisbury Business School.She and her husband, the late Raymond R. Rohrer, founded Classtex Knitting Mills Inc. in 1946 and recently celebrated their 70th year in business.She was currently president of Classtex and was involved with managing the business until her illness in December 2015.She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg. She was one of the first female members on the St. Paul's Church Council, taught Sunday School for 30 years and was VBS director for 25 years.She was very active and involved in her community. She was a lifetime member of the Orwigsburg Eastern Star, serving many years as treasurer. She Sponsored Rohrer's Little League Team. She was founding member of the Orwigsburg Historical Society, a member of Orwigsburg Senior Citizens and Schuylkill Health Auxiliary. She was a past member and president of BPW, former den mother, poll worker and volunteer at Seton Manor's former gift shop. She was an avid bowler, and bowled in various leagues. She loved to travel and loved playing pinochle and belonged a card club.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Dallas Elliot; sisters, Kathryn Elliott Gray, Virginia Agnes Elliott Mitchell and Mary Etta Elliott Willey. She was the last member of her immediate family.Josephine is survived by her children, Joanne Emerich and her husband, Jim, and Richard Rohrer, husband of Belinda; a granddaughter, April Rohrer; brother-in-law, Levi Willey Sr., Fruitland, Md.; sister-in-law, Matilda Elliott, Federalsburg, Md.; nieces and nephews.A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Orwigsburg, with the Rev. Lee A. Diefenderfer officiating. Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 156, 215 N. Warren St., Orwigsburg, PA 17961, in Mrs. Rohrer's memory. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
