Mae L.  Benedict, 95, of Orwigsburg, passed away Friday, October 6th, at Schuylkill Center - Genesis Healthcare, Pottsville.

Mae was born in New Ringgold, PA on November 28, 1921, a daughter of the late Cora (Hafer) and William E. J.  Hechler.

She was the widow of Frank Benedict and a lifetime member of Christ United Church of Christ, Barnesville.

Mae graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1939. She was a 1943 graduate of Kutztown University earning her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She was an Elementary School Teacher at Mahanoy Area and Rush Township for over 36 years she retired in 1979.

Mae was Past Matron twice of Pilgrim Chapter # 137 O. E. S. Tamaqua. She was a past president of the Hometown Garden Club, a member of the N. E. A; Association of P.S.E.A.-R., and the Schuylkill Valley Past Matrons. A Member of Orwigsburg Chapter #424 O. E. S.

Mae is survived by her two sisters, Eva Price and Lorraine Benedict

A brother, Milton Hechler; Nieces & Nephews

She was preceded by a daughter Lorraine Serafine Benedict in 2014 and brothers Warren, Edward, and Sisters Arlene, Marion, and Dorothy. A Religious Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 13th at Christ United Church of Christ, Barnesville in Rush Township, with Pastor Dave Shoebridge officiating.

Friends are invited to call from 9:30 until 10:45, in the church, at which time there will be an Eastern Star Service.

Interment at White Church Cemetery, Rush Township.
