Douglass Russell Romig age 85 years went home on May 29th 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

 Born on October 23, 1931 at 126 West State Street, Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Douglass was the son of the late, Russell B. and Anna L. (Balthaser) Romig.

Douglass was a 1949 Graduate of Hamburg Area High School where he played Goal Keeper on the Hawks Soccer Team, winning four consecutive Berks County Championships. Douglass also played Baseball and Basketball.

In 1952 Douglass voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps proudly serving four years for our country as a United States Embassy Guard in Beirut, Lebanon, Ankara, Turkey and Nicosia, Cyprus. He attained the rank of Sergeant before being Honorably Discharged in 1956.

Douglass was employed by Carpenter Technology Corporation, number four mill, retiring in 1987 and enjoyed the remainder of his life pursuing his many interests. Douglass loved the outdoors and was an avid Hunter, Hiker and Bird Watcher.  He loved his Dogs, Military History, Baseball, Reading, spending time at his cabin on Hawk Mountain and being with his family.

Douglass was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church Hamburg, The National Rifle Association, The Hamburg Rifle and Pistol Club, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Wild Turkey Federation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Douglass is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy E. (Thomas) Romig, Hamburg; His Two Sons Timothy D. Romig, Husband of Tara Furer-Romig of Orwigsburg and Thomas R. Romig, Husband of Denise (Werley) Romig of Hamburg.Five Grandchildren; Zachary D. Romig, Husband of Rachael (Bryan) Romig, Wyomissing, Erica B. (Romig) Keller wife of Justin Keller, Hamburg, Mackenzie F. Romig, Orwigsburg; Lauren A. Romig-Weikel wife of Thomas Weikel, Orwigsburg and Rebecca L. Romig-Wenrich wife of Chase Wenrich,  Leesport. Two Great Grandsons; Owen M. Keller and Hunter D. Keller both of Hamburg and lastly by his loyal dog Mocha.

Douglass lived a full and honest life. Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Orwigsburg is honored to be serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Keystone Wounded Warriors PO Box 475 Blandon, PA 19510, in honor of Douglass.
