Barbara J. Melenchick TahaneyNovember 9, 1946 – September 4, 2018Barbara Jane was a lifelong resident of Orwigsburg, PA.  Born in Pottsville, she was the daughter of Stephen & Veronica Melusky Melenchick, a coal miner and housewife living in Llewellyn, PA.  Predeceased by both parents; a sister, Vera Voss; brothers, Stephen Jr. "Sonny" and Raymond; and son, John Jr.  She was a resident of St. Francis Childrens Orphanage from 1953-1964 when she graduated from Nativity BVM High School.  She was married to John J. "Jack" Tahaney for 17 years with whom she had 4 children. Surviving family members include son, James, husband of Dina Pohubka Tahaney, Lake Wynonah; daughters Jacqueline "Jackie" Mapstone, Allentown and Jennifer, Lisbon, NH, nieces, godchildren and grandsons – James Nicholas "Nick", John and Ryan Tahaney and granddaughters – Megan and Jade Zalonka and Heather Pohubka. Barbara worked at various factories, Manufacturing plants and restaurants in Schuylkill County and was a lover of music and singing.  She played acoustical guitar and the accordion.  She even did some belly dancing where she laughed more than dance.  She will always be remembered for her generosity to those less fortunate and her simple acts of kindness. A Religious Service will be held at 7 PM on Friday, September 7th at Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc, Orwigsburg. Visitation with family 6-7PM.
