Charles W. Moyer, 81, of Orwigsburg, passed away Sunday at home surrounded by family members.

Born in Orwigsburg, June 3, 1932, he was a son of the late William C. and Helen Mae Strouse Moyer.

He was the husband of Fern E. Rarick Moyer, whom he married Oct. 13, 1951.

A 1950 graduate of Orwigsburg High School, he served in the Army in the 26th Infantry Tank Company in Bamberg, Germany, during the Korean War.

He worked for Reading Railroad as a fireman on steam engines and diesels and retired from Materion (Brush Wellman) in 1993, where he worked for more than 25 years.

Charlie was a member of Schuylkill Lodge 138, where he served as chaplain for 11 years, Scottish Rite 32 Degree Valley of Reading, Rajah Shriners and Schuylkill Forest 50, Tall Lebanon Cedars.

He was a former member of Rebekah's and Odd Fellows of East Brunswick Lodge 802 and he was past grand marshal for the state of Pennsylvania from 1996-97. He was also a member of Orwigsburg Chapter 424 Order of the Eastern Star, Orwigsburg.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 62 years, Fern, Orwigsburg, are daughters, Deborah E. Moyer, Orwigsburg, Sandra J., wife of Scott Ludwig, Auburn, and Fern E., wife of Rodney Houser, Orwigsburg; son, William C. Moyer, husband of Cindy, Orwigsburg; brother, James F. Moyer, husband of Ruthann, Orwigsburg; grandchildren, Bryan Ludwig and his wife, Kristen, Samantha Ludwig, Tyler Moyer and his fianceé©, Ashlie, Travis Moyer, Troy Moyer and Jeremy Houser and his companion, Melinda; two great-grandchildren, Kelti and Braylon Ludwig; sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.

There will be an Eastern Star service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, with a Masonic service at 10:45 a.m. Religious service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Darcy M. Reis officiating. The family will be receiving visitors from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
