Daniel O. Shoener, 91, of Orwigsburg, passed away Dec. 30 at Orwigsburg Center-Genesis Healthcare, Orwigsburg, while in the company of family members.

He was the husband of Anna M. Strouse Shoener. They were married Jan. 1, 1955.

Born in Orwigsburg, March 9, 1923, he was a son of the late Herbert Diefenderfer and Mary Bridget Osenbach Shoener.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked as an inspector at Alcoa, Cressona, and also worked for Boyers Food Markets, Orwigsburg.

Daniel was a member of Congregational Free Church of Christ, Orwigsburg. He was very active in his church and volunteered wherever help was needed most.

An avid bowler, he was a member of the Alcoa Bowling League, as well as the Alcoa 50-Year Club.

He liked spending time with his brothers, golfing and was very involved in scouting. His family, children and grandchildren were his life.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Elaine Shoener; and brothers, Linwood, Clifford, Marlin and Charles Shoener.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 59 years, Anna, are sons, Dale E. Shoener, husband of Karen Rebecca, Lancaster, Richard A. Shoener, husband of Karen, Orwigsburg, and Robert L. Shoener, Deer Lake; a daughter, Carol L., wife of Michael Murray, Coatesville; a brother, Henry P. Shoener, MaryD; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Congregational Free Church of Christ, McKeansburg, with the Rev. Jeffrey C. Stonesifer officiating. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.
