Harry W. "Sonny" Eckert, 82, of North Manheim Township, passed away Friday at home.

Born in Pottsville, July 16, 1931, he was a son of the late Harry and Marion Brennan Eckert.

He married his wife, the former Joan L. Gordon, on Dec. 3, 1949.

He owned and operated his own auto repair and car sales business, Eckert Garage.

He was also North Manheim Township supervisor for 24 years and served as road master before retiring in December 2007. He continued to serve as a member of the township sewer authority. He was also the Republican committeeman for North Manheim Township, and a member of Masonic Lodge 138.

He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven.

He loved his family and in his life, they came first.

Harry was preceded in death by siblings, Raymond "Bupper" Eckert, Ronald Eckert, Joanne Nagle, and infant, Jacqueline Eckert.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Joan, are daughters, Carol J. Weiss, Saint Clair, and Barbara G., wife of Kevin Miller, Pottsville; a son, Harry L. Eckert, husband of Beth, North Manheim Township; sisters, Nancy, widow of George Neubling, Maryland, Janice Webber, North Manheim Township, and Darlene, wife of Leon Faust, Auburn; brothers, David Eckert, husband of Joanne, Robert Eckert, husband of Mary, and Clarence "Butch" Eckert, husband of Mary Jo, all of Pottsville; grandchildren, Marcie Schultz, Tami Stump, Jesse Weiss, Angela Eckert, Ronald Eckert, Hayley Miller and Ross Miller; great-grandchildren, Kelci Hornberger, Owen Stump, Ethan Stump, Jake Weiss, Taylor Weiss, Jesse Zane Weiss, Sabrina Bowers, Thomas Bowers, Ainsley Payne-Eckert, Harper Payne-Eckert, Vincent Schultz, Hunter Horan and Haylee Horan; and a great-great-grandson, Carter Light.

Religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Shawn D. Van Dyke officiating. Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Masonic service will be at 10:45 a.m. Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
