HARRY W. LAFKO , 75, of Orwigsburg, passed away Saturday, December 19th, peacefully, while in the company of family members, at Schuylkill Medical Center - East Norwegian Street, Pottsville.
Born in Fort Lee, NJ on February 27, 1940, a son of the late Philomena and William Lafko .
He was the husband of Barbara (Olmes ) Lafko. They were married on August 9, 1969.
Harry graduated from Fort Lee High School, Fort Lee, NJ in 1958, Received his BS Degree from Monmouth College 1964 , and his Masters degree from University in 1986.
He taught social Studies in Howell township, NJ from 1964-1972. He was a public accountant in NJ from 1972-1980, and was a police officer in Seaside Heights, NJ, He also taught at McCann School of Business, and in the Blue Mountain School District where he became the assistant principle at the middle school in 1985 until he retired in 1999.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church Schuylkill Haven, and was a past member of the Pennsylvania Student Assistant Program, Past Member of the Tom's River Kiwanis Club and the Orwigsburg Lion's Club since 1982, The Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow, and Charter Member of the Blue Mountain Eagle Foundation and the Fraternal Order of Police , Black Diamond Lodge # 80.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, of 46 years, Harry is also survived by
his daughter, Amy M. Lafko
a son, W. David Lafko & his Wife Jessica
Granddaughter Isabella , Grandson Xavier
a sister, Elizabeth A. , wife of John Staiger
Brother & Sister In Laws, Susan Mato & her husband Juan, Frank Olmes his wife Janice, James Olmes, and Phil Olmes & his wife Priscilla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, PA, at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 22nd, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating. Friends and family will gather in the Church from 9:30 until 10:00 Am at which time there will be a Lions Club Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Eagle Foundation Blue Mountain 45 Wilder Street Cressona, PA 17929 or Orwigsburg Boys Club Home Association , BS Troop 624, 91 East Independence Street, Orwigsburg, PA 17961 or St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 201 Randel St. Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
Interment will be private at Madonna Cemetery , Toms River NJ.
