Harry H. Moore, 88, of Hope Avenue, Orwigsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, March 10, 1926, he was a son of the late Harry M. and Marion S. Heckman Moore. Harry was also preceded by a brother, Stanley Moore.

He was the husband of Dorothy M. Faust Moore. They were married Feb. 7, 1948.

He was a 1944 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School.

Harry was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Orwigsburg.

During World War II, Harry flew on B-29s in the 20th Air Force in Central Pacific Theater of Operations.

He worked as a salesman after his discharge from the service and retired from S&H Green Stamps after 25 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad as a narrator in Jim Thorpe, until the summer 2014.

Harry was a member of Masonic Lodge 138, 32nd degree Mason, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 802, where he served as Noble Grand. He was also a member of VFW Post 2198 and served as post commander for two years. He served as the commander of VFW and American Legion Firing Squad for 50 years. He was also a member of Minersville American Legion Post 544.

Harry served as mayor of Orwigsburg from 1994 to 2000. He was a member and past president of Orwigsburg Lions Club; a life member of Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens; and a charter member of the World War II Museum.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, are three sons, David H. Moore, husband of Christine, James H. Moore, husband of Lori, and Scott J. Moore, husband of Denise; a daughter, Susan M., wife of Thomas Kramer; nine grandchildren, Kelli Childs, wife of Christopher, Kristen Sullivan, wife of Todd, John Moore, Mallory Moore, Jimmy Moore, Jarrod Kramer, Kayla Moore, Brett Moore and Jason Juranis, husband of Andrea; and six great-grandchildren, Quinten, Celia, Will, Lily, Isiah and Elijah.

A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Orwigsburg. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
