Jean Frances Schu, 94, of Orwigsburg, entered eternal rest Sunday while in the company of family members at St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.Born in Orwigsburg, Nov. 14, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Martha O. Burg Fetherolf.She was the widow of Thomas Schu, who died Aug. 16, 1974.She was a graduate of Orwigsburg High School, Class of 1939, and was employed as a general manager at the former H.H. Fessler Knitting Mill, Orwigsburg, for 62 years, retiring in 2000.Jean was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Orwigsburg. She was also a member of Orwigsburg Lionettes, DAR Orwigsburg Chapter and Salem United Methodist Women. She was the first woman president of the National Knitwear Association. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by siblings, Doris Huber, William Fetherolf (died in childhood), Joseph Fetherolf and Betty Rawlston.Jean is survived by two sons, John C. Schu, husband of Mary, and James D. Schu, both of Orwigsburg; grandchildren, Kayla E. Schu, Philadelphia, Thomas J. Schu, Wilmington, Del., Casey J. Schu, New York City, Marcelena K. Schu, Hoboken, N.J., and Anne E. Schu, State College.She is also survived by her favorite four legged friend, Nellie, whom she always had treats for in the kitchen cupboard when she came to visit.A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem United Methodist Church, Orwigsburg, with pastor Steward Warner officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place in Kimmel's Church Cemetery, West Brunswick Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 133 S. Liberty St., Orwigsburg, PA 17961.
