Obituary

Mrs. Betty Ann Strawhorn, 88, of Nutley, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 8th at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 201 Randel Street, in Schuylkill Haven, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S.  Zemanik officiating. A chapel viewing just prior will be offered from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.  Interment will follow Mass in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
Betty Ann was born in Newark, NJ and was a longtime resident and currently resided in New Ringgold, PA, where she went home peacefully to the Lord.
Betty Ann is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert J. Strawhorn, her son and daughter-in-law, David J. Strawhorn and Laura N. Trivelli, her daughters, Elizabeth A. Cochrane, Maria R. Strawhorn and Jennifer R. DeMiro.  She was also the proud grandparent of Jack T. Strawhorn, Margo S. Cochrane, Anastasia E. DeMiro and Daniel N. DeMiro.  She is also predeceased by her sister Maureen Cullari and brother-in-law, Carmen Cullari.  Her brother, William MacFarlane, and sister-in-law, Patricia MacFarlane, currently reside in Forked River, NJ.
Betty Ann had many talents enjoying a diverse career at ITT’s World Headquarters in Nutley, NJ, and as an Executive Administration Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs at Bloomfield College, a school which is now part of Montclair State University.  For most of Betty Ann’s life, she was a homemaker caring for her loving husband and 4 children.  She and Robert also shared a passion for animals, more specifically, the German Shepherd, providing a loving home for roughly 8 dogs over the years.  What started as a child, rescuing Blue Jays in her little red wagon, became a life-long passion.  She also devoted much of her time to the Nutley Volunteer Emergency Squad, creating a special presence in the community.
As an avid supporter of the Hillside SPCA, PO Box 233, Pottsville PA 17901 (hillsidespca.com: "In memory of Betty Ann Strawhorn"), Betty Ann would prefer donations in lieu of flowers. Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home, Inc., Orwigsburg is honored to be serving the family.
