Gladys Santee Obituary

Gladys J. Santee, 95, of Providence Place, Pottsville, formerly of Margaret Ave, Orwigsburg, passed away Saturday, March 26th.

Gladys was born in Allentown on July 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Elizabeth D. (Gehringer) and Charles C. Snyder, raised by Mary Gehringer.

She was the widow of Kenneth W. Santee.

Gladys was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg.  She was a South Whitehall High School graduate, Class of 1944. She graduated from Cedar Crest College, Class of 1948, with a degree in Medical Technology and worked at Bethlehem Diagnostics in Bethlehem, PA  and St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem Lab of Clinical Pathology. Gladys moved to Orwigsburg and received a degree in Elementary Education and went on to teach at Schuylkill Haven Elementary for over 25 yrs.

She was past President of the Orwigsburg Lionettes. She also was Secretary of the Schuylkill Haven Teachers Assoc. and member of the American Contract Bridge League and Bronze Life Master and Director of duplicate bridge clubs in the area.

Gladys is survived by her two sons, Scott Santee, husband of Cathy, of Orwigsburg and Todd Santee of Macungie; grandchildren Jennifer and Matthew and three great grandchildren Audrey, Abby, and Teddy.  Gladys is also survived by a sister, Nancy Erdman, wife of Arthur, of Allentown.   She was preceded in death by brothers Donald Gehringer, Clinton Snyder and sisters Phyllis Hoyt, Mary Lou Davis & Jayne Merkle

A Religious Service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 31st at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orwigsburg, with Rev. Michael Petresky officiating.  Public visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until the time of service.

Interment will follow at Jordan Lutheran Cemetery, Orefield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
