Gerald B. (Jerry) Berger left this world behind to join the Lord on August 14, 2023, just 6 days short of his 92nd birthday. The son of Bright and Mary Berger, Jerry was a life-long resident of Orwigsburg, PA and graduated from Orwigsburg High School in 1949. Jerry and Margaret (Peg) Hummel were married on January 29, 1955. Jerry was a faithful and active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Orwigsburg for his entire life. He also served the community as a member of the Orwigsburg Lion’s Club and coached Little League baseball. Jerry was a partner with his brothers in Bright A. Berger & Sons, a local sheet metal and air conditioning business for 64 years. Jerry was a sportsman, and his passion was golf. A low handicapper, he carded three aces in his decades on the course. When not playing, Jerry could often be found watching golf on TV or watching the Phillies. In addition to his beloved Peg, Jerry is survived by two sisters, Mardelle Deibert and Maryanne (Gale) Sterner, and two brothers, Willis (Barbara) Berger and Jay Berger. He is also survived by daughters Kristine Berger and Jayne (George) Prohaska, grandchildren Katrina Montoya and Nicholas Prohaska, and great-granddaughters Harper, Lucy, Ava, and Zara. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s UCC, Orwigsburg on Thursday, August 24 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 AM that day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of contributions to St. John’s UCC, 236 E. Market St., Orwigsburg, PA 17961.
