Katherine "Chris" G. Brittain, aged 92, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, while residing at Hometown Nursing Home. Chris was born in Andreas, PA on November 21, 1928 to Charles and Alberta Steigerwalt.
As a young woman Chris married Elwood A. Zimmerman and moved to New Ringgold where she spent most of her life. She and Elwood had one child, Linda P. Zimmerman. After Elwood’s passing, she spent the rest of her life married to Joseph A. Brittain of Berwick, PA. Chris was a retired massage therapist who also held various positions in hospitals and factories throughout her life. Chris was a dedicated baptized Christian in the local Tamaqua congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ever the hard worker, she loyally spent countless hours preaching to her neighbors and assisting friends and family in need. Everyone that knew her knew they had an open invitation to the pool all summer long, acting as an adoptive grandma to many. Her passions were serving God, vanilla ice cream and mowing her lawn. She always prided herself on her beautiful garden.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers John, Marvin, Melvin, Kermit, Earlin and her sister Mildred Faust. She is survived by her husband Joseph A. Brittain, her daughter Linda P. Zimmerman, her sister Melva Dunn, her grandchildren Imtesal, Amearah and Jalal Elhassan, Christina Leung-Tat and her great grandchildren Leilani Pires and Jerico Leung-Tat. Chris made a powerful impact on many lives and she will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be over Zoom and announced at a later date.
