Robert C. Sterner, 80, of Mertztown, passed away Thursday, February 5th, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Bob was born in Orwigsburg, Pa. on April 27, 1945, a son of the late Hazel E. (Folk) and Franklin B. Sterner. He was the widower of Bernice "Bonnie" Sterner.
Art was Bob’s passion. He was a billboard painter for many years, and in his free time he pinstriped cars, gold leafed fire trucks, painted murals in churches, and painted many, many pieces for friends and family. He was incredibly talented and was well known for his work in Eastern Pennsylvania and beyond.
Describing Bob as a social person is an understatement. Everywhere he went, someone always knew him and he couldn’t walk into a room without people shouting hello. Above all else, he will be remembered for his kindness, his story telling, and his sense of humor. Bob never forgot a detail of the conversations he had with others and he was always eager to tell his own stories. He had a joke to tell in any scenario, even making sure that his family was laughing during his final days and even hours.
Bob is survived by his five children: Robert L. Sterner and his wife Susan, Barry Sterner, Shawn Sterner and his wife Kimberly, Brad Sterner and his wife Alicia, Janelle Neider, and his brother Gale Sterner and his wife Mary Ann.
In addition, Bobby leaves behind his beloved Grandchildren: Addison Sterner, Lola Neider, Alivia Neider, Dameon Neider, Brenna Burkhart and husband Andrew, Alexandra Park and husband Jonathan, Joshua Sterner, Matthew Sterner, Hannah Ray, Victoria Kuebler and husband Steven, Zachary Kuebler and wife Chelsea, Kailey Quinton and husband Adam, Kelsey Wood and husband Robert, and his Great-Grandchildren, Rylee, Connor, Cole, Crew, Audrey and Anna.
Bob was predeceased by sister Joanne "Sis" Webber, Brothers Richard "Phil", Barry and John Sterner.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 12th at Hamilton - Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Orwigsburg, PA. Public visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery Orwigsburg.
