Stephen A. Stauffer

May 18, 1920 ~ June 30, 2023 (age 103) 103 Years Old

Obituary

Stephen A. Stauffer, age 103, of Auburn, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, June 30th, with family by his side.
He was the widower of Jean Amanda (Bainbridge) Stauffer; married 72 years.
He was predeceased by siblings Harrison, Mary, Bernetta, Philip, William, Martha, and Shirley.
Stephen was born in St. Clair on May 18, 1920, a son of the late Minnie Viola (Smith) of Sweetwater, PA and Philip Sylvester Stauffer of Ringtown, PA. The family moved to Molino in 1927 (Wink's Hollow), where he attended a one-room country school for six years, then graduated from Auburn High School in 1935.
He worked at his father’s garage (Stauffer's Garage) from 1927 until 1948, then George R. Fink where he drove and fixed trucks from 1943 until 1945. From 1948 to 1950 he worked for Clifford Schultz and later built S & S Service Center in 1951 and operated it until it was sold in 1980. He served as District Magistrate from 1970 until 1972 and constable from 1942 until 1970.
He was an artist and musician at an early age, and became an avid hunter, fisherman, archer, bowler, golfer, and mechanic with imagination. Stephen loved music and played guitar, harmonica, and keyboard. He was a snowmobiler and motorcyclist from the 1940’s to the 1990’s, enjoying camping excursions on his motorcycle with friends and family.
He was a member of the Stag Archers Club in the early 1960s, the South Schuylkill Farmers Safety Club. He was a carpenter (built his own home) and a mechanic since age 7 and loved working with his hands. He built from scratch and rebuilt various types of vehicles including the 1965 Impala “pickup” while in his 90’s.
He was an active member of Lighthouse Church, Orwigsburg.  He would reflect how, in 1965, when his first grandchild was born with complications, the Lord used this very difficult event to reveal His plan of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. He then loved studying and discussing the bible.
Stephen is survived by his daughter Sandra, wife of Pastor William Orf, of Orwigsburg, and son James Stauffer, husband of Augusta, of Auburn; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He is and will be missed by his family and friends.
A Service will be held at the Lighthouse Church in Orwigsburg on Saturday, July 8th with visitation beginning at 9 AM until 10 AM then the service ending at 11 AM. Interment at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Inc. Schuylkill Haven, PA immediately after the service.
