Walter G. “Butch” Furer of Orwigsburg passed away at home on Saturday September 21st, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Darnell Furer (Farley). They recently celebrated 26 years of marriage.
Butch was born on December 17, 1941 in Tarentum PA. He attended The Kiski School in Pittsburgh, PA and Salem College in West Virginia. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era where he was stationed in France and participated in Operation Silk Purse initiative.

In addition he was a co-owner and Vice President of LTL Home Products and Country Chevrolet. He served on numerous community boards, and was a Master Mason and Shriner.
Butch was one of the best people God put on this planet. A genuine mix of kindness, generosity, street smarts, fun and devotion to his family. Every single person who had the privilege of knowing Butch, is better for it. He was truly one of a kind.
He loved traveling, cooking chicken soup for his family, working on construction and renovation projects, airplanes of all kinds, and his faithful Labrador Retriever Yowser.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Tara Furer-Romig (Timothy), Orwigsburg, PA, Rebecca Caplan (Sloan) of Lititz, PA, Ashley Russo (Peter) of Orwigsburg, PA, and 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by first his wife, Nancy Furer(Norman) and also his parents George Pyle and Mildred Furer.
Our family will always treasure the positive influence he had on our lives and the expert counsel he so willingly provided.
So in the words of a friend, “Butch had a life to be celebrated – not a death to be mourned.”
