Willis ( Bill ) Berger

Willis L. (Bill) Berger, 96, of Providence Place, Pottsville, formerly of Orwigsburg, passed away Saturday, December 23rd, at his residence, with family by his side.
Bill was born in Orwigsburg, PA on April 14, 1927, a son of the late Mary Christiana (Shoener) and Bright Augustus Berger.
He was the husband of Barbara Ellen (Shaw) Berger. They were on married April 30th, 1949. Bill was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ Orwigsburg.
After graduating from Orwigsburg High School he went into the US Navy to serve his country during WW2, He then attended Penn State and earned his associate degree in architecture.
He was employed and then became President of his families' business, Bright A. Berger & Sons Orwigsburg.,
Bill loved baseball, and was almost signed with the Phillis, before joining the Navy. he was a member of the Orwigsburg Lions club for over 50 years.
In addition to Barbara, his wife of 74 years, Bill is also survived by his daughter, Ellen, wife of Tom Bowen, of Orwigsburg, PA;
and son,Stephen Berger, of Tampa, FL; 4 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, Numerous nieces & nephews.
He is is also survived by
two sisters, Mardelle, widow of Fred Deibert and Mary Anne, wife of Gale Sterner
He was preceded in death by his brothers Jerry Berger, husband of Peg and Jay Berger, widower of Ruby earlier this year.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date with Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating.
